Matthew Shin is a recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) where he studied with Alan Rafferty of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Matthew served as principal cellist of the Philharmonia, Concert, and Opera orchestras while studying at CCM. He was one of the youngest members of the 2015 National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Matthew returned to the NRO in 2016 as principal cellist. In 2013, he won first prize at the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra (DPO) David L. Pierson Young Musicians Concerto Competition and then made his solo debut at the Schuster Center with the DPO.

He has performed live on WDTN Channel 2 News and was featured twice on NPR’s From the Top. In addition to his performance of the Dvořák Cello Concerto with the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra, in 2018 Matthew was invited to perform the Schumann Cello Concerto as guest soloist with the Wright State University Symphony Orchestra and conductor In-Hong Cha.

Matthew is also a cellist with The Ohio Valley Symphony.
