*Additional time over 60 minutes billed in 15-minute increments of $7.50 each. For example, a 90 minute lesson will total $60.00.
Sheet Music: Prices will vary. Students are responsible for purchasing sheet music as directed by the teacher. Sheet music may be purchased through John at cost.
Recitals (optional): A fee of $25 per student to help cover costs. Depending upon recital venue, guests may be required to purchase tickets.

John McAlister is from Huntington, WV, an inspired piano teacher, vocal coach and music entrepreneur. In recent past, he has produced several theatrical concerts featuring Tony Award® winner Beth Leavel, five-time Grammy® winner Sandi Patty and Steinway-branded artists and has also worked for the Walt Disney Company. John has coordinated choral and instrumental music at Solida Baptist Church, Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church and Ashland First United Methodist Church.
John studied liberal arts and music at Marshall University and Bob Jones University and is a member of the Music Teachers National Association. He studied piano under Dr. Mark Parker, Dr. Leslie Petteys, Dr. Henning Vauth, Mila Markun and Roger VanMaasdam. He studied voice with Dr. Larry Stickler, Dr. William McCauley, John Cavazos, Lisa Ericksen and Branita Holbrook-Bratka. Additionally, John has spent time studying acting and stage movement. Today, John maintains a musical presence throughout the Tri-State assisting with various community projects often as conductor, accompanist and/or arranger.
Excellence is John’s motto. He is very passionate about combining classical technique with modern trends in technology and business to assure the sustainability of performing arts for future generations. He believes that everyone can enjoy music through its power to serve as an effective vehicle for learning valuable life lessons.
When not at the piano, John enjoys spending free time with his extended family. His hobbies include anything Christmas, coffee, model railroading, national parks, running, travel and trying new restaurants.
